The NFL world has been an interesting one this week since the teams are actively signing and cutting players to build a good team in the free agency. And as expected, the demand for a good QB led to the free-agent quarterbacks finding a new home as soon as the free agency started. In that trend, the Washington Commanders have signed the former Browns signal-caller Jacoby Brissett.

The Commanders have already claimed that their 2022 fifth-round Draft pick Sam Howell will most likely be the starting quarterback on the opening week of the 2023 regular season per reports. However, the Washington-based franchise was shopping for a veteran QB to back up Howell. And now, the Commanders have got themselves a good veteran quarterback by signing Jacoby Brissett to a one-year 10 million deal.

Jacoby Brissett was drafted by the New England Patriots during the 3rd round of the 2016 NFL Draft. After one season with the Patriots, he was traded to the Colts, where he took over the starting QB job after star QB Andrew Luck went down with an injury. During his 4-year stint with the Colts, Brissett threw for 6059 yards and 31 touchdowns.

Moreover, after his time with the Colts, Brissett spent one year with the Miami Dolphins before taking his talents to the Cleveland Browns. While Deshaun Watson was serving his 11-game ban for sexual assault allegations, Brissett took over the starting QB job and threw for 2608 yards and 12 touchdowns in the 11 games he started.

Fans on social media had mixed reactions to the Washington Commanders signing the former Browns quarterback Jacoby Brissett. Some people liked the pickup since they thought Brissett would give Howell tough competition for the starting QB job.

Other people thought the Commanders should’ve gotten a better available quarterback since Sam Howell himself isn’t good enough to be the starting quarterback of an NFL franchise.

Nevertheless, the Commanders have full trust in Sam Howell’s potential to become a future franchise signal-caller of their club. According to ESPN, head coach Ron Rivera said that Howell will be the “quarterback to beat” during the off-season.

During the 2022 season, the rookie QB Sam Howell started one game and threw for 169 yards, and rushed for one touchdown. The sample size is very small but Howell does have great potential to lead the NFL franchise.
