“His dad looked like crying,” Twitter Reacts to Lions CB Saivion Smith TRAGICALLY collapsing on the pitch against the Patriots
Saivion Smith injury
A frightening scene gripped the Gillette Stadium as the Detroit Lions faced the New England Patriots on match day five. Detroit Lions cornerback Saivion Smith faced a horrible neck injury in the first quarter of the game and had to be taken off the field in a stretcher.
It was an extremely scary moment for all the players as well as fans onlooking the incident, as Saivion Smith was taken to a nearby hospital, as well as his father and uncle who were in the stands were asked to accompany him in the ambulance.
Saivion Smith suffers neck injury as the Lions fall 29-0 to the Patriots
The injury occurred when Saivion Smith was up against New England Patriots’ tight end Hunter Henry and appeared to clash into him and then suddenly fell on the ground. Medical staff immediately rushed to the spot along with a stretcher, and then finally an ambulance arrived.
He was quickly rushed to a hospital nearby, and it was reported that he had indeed suffered from a neck injury but has ‘movement in all his extremities ‘ which is a positive sign. Although the injury was a devastating blow, the Detroit Lions still were nowhere close to their best as they lost 29-0 to the Patriots.
“Everybody was concerned about Saivion so, yeah, that was a sigh of relief,” Lions coach Dan Campbell said. “It’s hard to see ‘your brother or teammate’ have that happen, but that doesn’t change the way we played,” quarterback Jared Goff said.
“I’m sure some guys were rattled,” Goff said. “You see your guy get stretchered off, that can kind of set you back for a second, but by no means is that a reason why (we lost).”
