The Miami Dolphins are not messing about this offseason, especially in regards to their offensive stocks having already resigned a couple of wide receivers early. After re-signing Braxton Berrios and River Cracraft to one-year contracts, the Dolphins are now ready to make some room in the wide receiving department ahead of the 2023/24 NFL season.

According to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, the Miami Dolphins are reportedly all set to trade off Cedrick Wilson after only a season with the franchise.

“The Dolphins could trade Wilson this offseason to reduce his cap hit from $8 million to $2 million or $1 million, depending on the timing of the trade. They’re open to that, but they’re also OK with having him on the team, according to an involved source.

“But cutting him wouldn’t make sense; $5 million of his $7 million salary is guaranteed, and his cap hit would drop only from $8 million to $6 million if he’s cut after June 1, and to $7 million if cut before.”

Wilson joined the Dolphins in 2022/23 on a three- year $22.8 million contract from the Dallas Cowboys after an exhilarating season. However, a string of underwhelming performances from the 28-year-old in his debut season with the franchise seems to have made the Dolphins regret their decision to rope him into the side.

Twitter did not take these reports lightly, and jumped on the bandwagon to troll the franchise for their rash decision making last season. Check out a few of fan responses –

In 2022/23, Cedrick Wilson recorded a shocking 12 catches for 136 yards, a number that’s incredibly low in contrast to his breakthrough season with the Cowboys in 2021. The 28-year-old set a career high record with the Cowboys that year having a total of 45 receptions for 602 yards and six touchdowns.

Cutting Wilson would not be a great move for the Dolphins itself, as they would get only about a $1 million in savings and Barry Jackson also reports that the franchise would be open to holding onto him if no other team wants to move in with the trade option. Given the resources available to head coach Mike McDaniel, it will be a difficult task for Cedrick Wilson to force himself into the scheme of things even if he manages to stay on with the franchise at the end of this offseason.
