The New York Jets are having a horrible start to their 2023-24 season. The team won the first game against the Buffalo Bills. However, they suffered a major setback as their star quarterback Aaron Rodgers was subjected to a season-ending injury. He left the field and did not come back to the field. It is unsure whether he will come back to the field again.
A question is blowing in the wind in the absence of Rodgers. Who will take care of the quarterback position for the New York Jets? Zach Wilson, the second-choice quarterback, was earlier thought of as the replacement for Rodgers. He was a bit impressive against the Bills. However, he had one of the worst displays of football against the Dallas Cowboys. His was intercepted thrice in the game vs. the Cowboys and those three interceptions had a role in changing the colors of the game. The Jets lost the game by 10-30.
Recently, Wilson opened himself up regarding his position in the team and the Jets’ mentality to hire a new quarterback. The press asked him whether it was a notion of confidence for him. Answering them, the QB said, “I actually don’t look at it like that. For me, I’m the guy right now. My numbers called, so I’m gonna go out there and do everything I can for this offense.”
“That’s not something I really need to worry about, because right now I’ve got all the guys in the locker room behind me. I just got to lay my trust in those guys & go play football,” Wilson further said.
Multiple analysts earlier said that the Jets needed to look for an option inside their four walls. However, after seeing his performance of Wilson in the game vs. the Cowboys, some of them also suggested that the Jets needed a new quarterback this season to have a good performance.
Zach Wilson’s performance in the 2023-24 NFL season so far
The performance of Zach Wilson was below average for the Jets, this season. Against the Bills, he was effective, however statistically not brilliant. He covered 140 passing yards and completed 14 of his 21 passing attempts. He had one touchdown and a completion rate of 66.7%. However, he was also intercepted once.

Unfortunately Bills game was just a consolation for the Jets and Wilson. He was poor in the game vs. the Cowboys. The Jets relied on Wilson’s arm play rather than focusing on their natural running game.
However, Wilson disappointed the team management and the fans as he failed to meet the expectations. He was successful in completing 12 of his 27 passes and was intercepted thrice in the game. He had a touchdown and an abysmal completion rate of 44%.
