Tyreek Hill was on the receiving end of the internet’s fury a few weeks back when he stated that his current quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was a more accurate passer than Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes. Critics and fans alike were bewildered as to why Hill would say such a thing, that too for a guy he hasn’t played a single game with.

The star wideout launched his podcast It Needed To Be Said, on June 10 where he gave his fans an inside scoop about his deal with the Miami Dolphins and talked about the bond he’s made with fellow athletes throughout his career. He recently revealed that he has been receiving death threats ever since the release of his first podcast.

Tyreek Hill, 28, and his co-host — lawyer Julius Collins- discussed Dolphins starter Tua Tagovailoa during their podcast. “He’s ‘that’ dude, bro. Like what a lot of people don’t know. Like I’m not like — I’m not just sitting here just — I’m not just sitting here just saying this because he’s my quarterback now!” Hill said. “I’m not trying to get more targets right now. But what I’m trying to say is to it is that deal, bro.”

“I’m gonna go with 15 as the strongest arm,” Hill said when asked to compare Patrick Mahomes and Tua. “But as far as accuracy-wise, I’m going with Tua all day.” This statement received heavy criticism from everyone in the league and from fans all around the globe. Many critics gave their piece of mind to Hill via their talk shows.  “Recognizing the fact that Patrick Mahomes is the baddest brother on the planet right now as a QB okay. And you’re gonna trynna tell me a dude you ain’t never even played a preseason game with is more accurate than Patrick Mahomes. If you are really really serious about that sorry I’m gonna say this on national television ‘Stay off the weeeeeeeeeeed’” Stephen A. Smith said bashing Hill for his ridiculous comparison.

“Tyreek, you got your money, bro,” Shannon Sharpe said“I don’t know why you feel the need to take shots at Andy (Reid), why you need to take shots at Patrick Mahomes. … If you think that Tua is as accurate as Patrick Mahomes, you’re about to find out what it was like to go from a historically great player to a very average quarterback.”

In the second episode of It Needed To Be Said Tyreek Hill revealed that he has been receiving rude messages and even death threats for his comments on Patrick Mahomes. “Every social media account I owned, I got death threats on,” Hill said. “Which is ridiculous. t’s just another situation where my mom always told me, you never judge a book by its cover. You know, the whole thing ain’t even out yet. Right. You know? So you just be patient, man. I just feel like a lot of people just overreacted for no reason.”

Fans have often taken their freedom of speech right too far by threatening the players and their families. Baker Mayfield had to go through the same ordeal when he performed poorly on the Christmas Day matchup against the Green Bay Packers. Mayfield’s wife Emily shared the threats the QB had been receiving since the game. Hill said what he said because he is now a Miami Dolphin. He can’t go around the league accepting the fact that he traded one of the best QBs in the league for a guy who is yet to prove himself for money.

In fact, Pat McAfee praised Hill for backing up his quarterback. “I appreciate the fact that it all seems to be revolving around putting over Tua, and making people stop talking shit on Tua, which is what exactly a wide receiver is gonna do for his quarterback.” McAfee said.
