“He was burning out playing for Bruce Arians” Skip Bayless makes a bold claim about why Tom Brady returned to the Buccaneers for 2022
Skip Bayless and Tom Brady
Tom Brady broke the internet when he retired back in late January of this year. Once again, Brady has shocked the world as just 40 days since announcing his retirement, he has now revealed that he will be playing in the NFL in 2022.
Given the reasons Brady gave for his retirement, him returning so soon makes it even more surprising that he’s back. Earlier, his head coach Bruce Arians stated that those reasons are exactly why he didn’t expect a return anytime soon.
Prior to the announcement, the Buccaneers had their work cut out for them in terms of keeping their talent in free agency. They still do have a lot of work to do but having Tom Brady on your roster is a massive bonus. An established and successful quarterback makes your team an attractive destination.
There were some reports that Tom Brady would consider coming back to the NFL but playing for a different franchise this time. Skip Bayless took some time to explain why he came back to Buccaneers.
Skip Bayless dissects why Tom Brady decided to come back to the Buccaneers
In a segment of Fox Sports’ ‘Undisputed’, Skip Bayless was quoted saying “There was method to Tom Brady’s march madness. He was burning out playing for Bruce Arians. I think it’s difficult to live with that guy because he takes public shots at his players and then says hey that’s what I do to all my guys. I think his lack of attention to detail wears on Tom Brady because he is obsessed with detail.”
Bayless further added “He knew they couldn’t be quite as good this year as they were last year. So, he wanted out. I couldn’t wrap my mind around him retiring because it didn’t make sense to me because he’s playing at an MVP level and he’s completely healthy.”
About Brady’s options outside of Tampa Bay, Bayless added “So, how do you get out of a deal in which you owe them one more year contractually? You have to see what’s out there. Sean Payton proposed to Tom Brady that let’s go to the Miami Dolphins and see what we can do to Bill Belichick within the division. Tom Brady was all in on that until the Brian Flores lawsuit which caused them to go in a different direction.”
“His second option, his dream was to finish back home for the 49ers” Bayless added. “He made a run at the Shanahans one more time because it would require them to go to the Glazer family and get them to let him go. Maybe they would let him go for a 5th rounder like Amari.”
Of course, now we know nothing else panned out and Tom Brady still wanted to play in the NFL. So, he’s back with the Buccaneers for a 3rd and possibly final season to go out and get that 8th ring. The roster is still competitive and if they can do the right things in free agency, there’s no reason to think they won’t be a serious contender in 2022.
