The NFL has a rich history given that it has been played for a very long time along with many teams which have managed to reach the public. Over the years, the league has given us many enthralling football games that have entertained the fans for a long time.

It is particularly fascinating and enjoyable at the same time when a high-scoring game is panning out with both teams’ offenses going at it and being led by their quarterbacks and receivers completing passing touchdowns. 40-50 points being scored in a single game (sometimes even by a single team alone!) is always fun to watch and even more so if it’s in a playoff game.

The 2010 NFC Wild Card Round game between the Green Bay Packers and the Arizona Cardinals is the highest-scoring playoff game which saw an offensive explosion never seen at this stage. It was a direct battle between two-star quarterbacks – Aaron Rodgers and Kurt Warner.

9. Los Angeles Rams vs Baltimore Colts, 1950: 97 points

The Los Angeles Rams absolutely demolished the Baltimore Colts in this 1950 fixture as they won 70-27, a margin of victory never heard of earlier. The Rams went on to score 28 points straight in this regular season game; at that time it was the highest-scoring record.

8. San Diego Chargers vs Pittsburgh Steelers, 1985: 98 points

The Pittsburgh Steelers and San Diego Chargers went head to head in one of the games of the season, with both teams going on the attack. The Chargers eventually won 54-44 mostly due to a 21-7 lead they had during the initial stages. Chargers’ Dan Fouts was impressive and had a field day, throwing for 372 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Tony Romo and Peyton Manning went head to head in one of the most fiercely fought affairs in NFL history. While Peyton Manning threw for 414 yards with four touchdowns, Tony Romo wasn’t far behind with 506 yards and five touchdowns. However, it was a late field goal that allowed the Broncos to win 51-48 on the day. The punters might have had a field day with their betting due to both the offensive teams going ballistic.

6. Kansas City Chiefs vs Seattle Seahawks, 1983: 99 points

With both teams looking less likely to make the playoff stages, the 1983 clash between the Seahawks and the Chiefs produced one of the most high-scoring games which ended 48-48 in regulation time. The Seattle Seahawks were finally able to claim the win with a decisive field goal.

Now, as we reach the top five highest-scoring games, we break into the combined score of a 100-point barrier as we start off with the 2015 clash between the New Orleans Saints and the New York Giants. Although the Saints came out on top with a 52-49 win, it was a night wherein Eli Manning silenced many critics as he recorded 21 points for the Giants in the second quarter.

4. Las Vegas Raiders vs Houston Oilers, 1963: 101 points

The old-school AFL gave us a thrilling game back in 1963, which was its highest-scoring game. The 49-49 score in the fourth quarter saw the game to overtime as placekicker Mike Mercer hit a field goal to hit the decisive punch and gave the Raiders the 52-49 victory.

3. Kansas City Chiefs vs Los Angeles Rams, 2018: 105 points

We have seen some record-breaking games from over 50 years back, but at the number three position in the list, we have a modern-day clash between the Rams and the Chiefs. Even the individualistic brilliance of recent Super Bowl LVII winner Patrick Mahomes (478 yards and six TDs) wasn’t enough to rescue the game in week 11 for the Chiefs as the Rams won 54-51.

2. Cincinnati Bengals vs Cleveland Browns, 2004: 106 points

Carson Palmer (four touchdowns) vs Rudi Johnson (202 yards with two touchdowns). That was the talk of everyone after this early 2000s game between the back-and-forth affair between Browns and Bengals as the latter managed to get the better on the day with a 58-48 victory. This game is the second-highest-scoring game, failing short of capturing the top spot by at least a touchdown.
