Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs did not have a smooth run to their 3-0 start so far. The wins might have added to their scoreboard, but their game has not yet lived up to what they were expected to. They will face the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 4. Even though fans will want a stiff battle, the Chargers vs Chiefs battle might turn out to be a lopsided affair.
The primary reason for that is injuries for the LA-based team. In addition, their lack of bench depth will likely show its ugly side against a deep Chiefs roster. With even question marks surrounding Justin Herbert‘s health and a depleted defense, it might be the best game for superstar tight end Travis Kelce to regain his confidence.
It is not to say that the Los Angeles Chargers have no chance to beat the back-to-back Super Bowl champions. They have one of the best head coaches in the game- Jim Harbaugh. One never knows if his famed motivational tactics push his bench players to finish the night with a famous victory. Below are the details on how to catch a literal David vs Goliath matchup.

Why can the Kansas City Chiefs win?
Form and depth. This is arguably one of the deepest rosters Patrick Mahomes has ever had in his NFL career. Despite the absence of key players in Marquise Brown and Isiah Pacheco, the Chiefs seem to have nothing to worry about. Rookies Carson Steel and Xavier Worthy have ensured the loss of their veterans has not impacted the team.
On the other hand, the Defense is playing lights out, albeit with some additional help. Mahomes keeps being the best quarterback in the NFL. Andy Reid keeps dialing out unreal plays to help his players get open. Except maybe when it comes to Travis Kelce. The star TE looks lethargic and lacking confidence. Against the Chargers’ defense, devoid of their playmakers, Mahomes could target him more to build that confidence.
It seems they will continue their winning run. If they run up the score, they could even think of giving their bench players some starter snaps. A good way to build up towards their goal of being the first franchise in history to win three straight Super Bowls.
Why can the Los Angeles Chargers win?
The Los Angeles Chargers could have a worse weekend. Both their starting offensive tackles are not scheduled to play. Their secondary is depleted with injuries and the suspension of Derwin James III. Some of their backups are on IR, but most importantly, their starting quarterback is not sure if he will play. Their young receiver core needs Justin Herbert’s steady hand if they are to continue playing and building confidence.
It all points to another loss for the Chargers against the Chiefs. Had they been healthy, they could have put up a fight. But even the likes of Khalil Mack will be left alone to deal with the Chiefs’ stud offensive line. If anything, new head coach Jim Harbaugh can still breathe some hope into them. He is known for his ability to bring out the best from his players.
Maybe they can at least try and go into this game swinging. The Chiefs have not played to their best yet. Evidently, if the Chargers can maybe push them over the edge with their unpredictability, they could end up winning an important battle against the Kansas City Chiefs. As the underdogs, a chip on their shoulder could become their biggest weapon.
