Star defenceman Jakob Chychrun is “ecstatic” as he sets off for Ottawa following his trade with Arizona Coyotes. Trade talks between the two teams have been going on for months. According to the trade deal, the Senators gave up on a conditional 1st round pick in 2023 and a 2nd round selection in 2024.

It is expected that Chychrun will make his debut on Thursday against New York Rangers. He was en route to New York on Wednesday as per a report. If the 24-year defenceman makes his way to Thursday’s lineup, he may debut with his new team along with Patrick Kane from the Rangers.

Both were recently traded from their former teams and have chances of playing against each other this week at Madison Square Garden. Though the trade made Senators pay a high price, they got their desired top defenceman along with retaining the rights of Mads Soggard and Ridly Greig.

Ottawa Senators GM Pierre Dorion was pretty pleased after acquiring defenceman Jakob Chychrun as he stated, “A defenseman we’ve coveted, Jakob is big and plays imposing”. “He possesses a quality skill set; he defends hard and is highly skilled.”

“He uses his heavy shot with accuracy and is effective at creating offense as a threat at the offensive blue line.” A defenceman we’ve coveted, Jakob is big and plays imposing. He possesses a quality skill set; he defends hard and is highly skilled.”

“He uses his heavy shot with accuracy and is effective at creating offence as a threat at the offensive blue line”. It’s great news for Chychrun as well since his family will be living close by. His dad, Jeff, a former NHLer often spends time in the summer at their home on White Lake which would be only a 20 minutes drive.

Andy Scott, Chychrun’s agent told that he had a talk with the defenceman following his trade and he’s beyond ecstatic, “I just got off the phone with Jakob and he’s ecstatic to be coming to Ottawa”. “This has been a 17-month wait for him to get traded and he’s been extremely patient.

“He’s been professional throughout. For him to come back to a place where he has significant ties, to the Ottawa area, with a young and exciting team, is just a great fit for him as a player. I think he’ll be a tremendous asset to the team and to the community.”

Though the Sens were in talks with Coyotes for several months, LA Kings and Edmonton Oilers were highly on their tails. Trade talks heated up with 48 more hours remaining before the deadline ends, but thankfully it ended with what both sides wanted.

Former part-owner of Coyotes, Anthony LeBlanc praised Chychrun heavily, “He’s a great young man and a quality, great guy”. “He’s also one hell of a hockey player, but someone who comes from strong hockey stock.

“I am not involved on the hockey operations side other than picking up Pierre’s dry cleaning, but I definitely hoped this could happen. Now I guess I have to pick up Pierre’s lunch as well.”
