Toronto Maple Leafs’ winger Michael Bunting completely flipped on on-ice refs during the game against Detroit Red Wings. The 27-year-old  got heavily cross-checked on his face by Red Wings’ defenceman Ben Chiarot while attempting a rebound in the Red Wings crease.

The cross-check looked painful as he 1.8m forward lost his helmet falling onto the ice. Prior to the incident, the game between the two NHL teams was fairly interesting as the Red Wings won the match 4-1 leaving the Leafs frustrated. A common symptom of the Leafs is getting frustrated if their offense fails.

The fans got to witness exactly that, as Bunting lost his cool chagrin into the Red Wings domain. Usually, a cross-check like that is penalized. In this case, the refs must have missed the moment of the incident as no penalty was called on Ben Chiarot. Undoubtedly this left Bunting fuming and screaming at the officials.

Michael Bunting shouted, “Are you f**king kidding me!!? F**k you!” “Why do you think my f**king helmet fell off!?” nevertheless, him losing a screw didn’t help in the refs issuing a penalty on the Red Wings defenceman Ben.

Now the Red Wings gained the lead in Thursday’s game and scored 18-15-7, while the Leafs left the ice with a record of 26-10-7. It was a game without Auston Matthews playing. Goalie Ilya Samsonov’s effort wasn’t returned as the team showed a lackluster performance.

It was also the Red Wings’ first win over the Leafs since December 15, 2017. Throughout the game, Ilya showed an outstanding performance as he saved 22 shots giving the team time for a counterattack. Unfortunately, the team couldn’t respond to his chances.

Leafs’ defenceman Mark Giordano said, “He gave us a chance”. “He was great. He made a lot of a lot of saves from (shots) in the slot, which we’ve got to clean up. We can’t give up that many quality looks. He looked really good all night, really confident in there.”

We were playing from behind and we didn’t have enough looks like in tight and around their net.” While coach Sheldon Keefe stated, “We punched back in that second period to make it a game”. “Obviously we just couldn’t generate enough offence. I loved the effort of our group and that the guys dug in.”
