Last year’s November 8 incident can hardly be forgotten as Edmonton Oilers forward Evander Kane left the ice leaving a trail of bloody mess behind. During the second period, Tampa Bay Lightning’s winger Pat Maroon accidentally skated across Kane’s exposed wrist.

Though the Lightning won 3-2 against the Oilers, there was no mood for any celebration, as fans and players saw Kane apply pressure on his wrist and rush to the medical room for emergency assistance. He underwent surgery and according to the doctor’s report, he shouldn’t be out on the ice for 3-4 months.

Fortunately, he’s alright, as Kane himself stated that except for his performance, he is perfectly feeling good. He’s been back on the team in just 10 weeks which no one expected. During recent Thursday night’s match at Roger Arena, Maroon skated over to Kane and apologized for the accident.

Pat Maroon tapped Evander Kane as both forward skated to the center of the ice for a quick chat. Maroon stated that he himself didn’t know it was his blade that cut Kane’s wrist until his son pointed it out. He apologized for the accident and asked how he has been doing.

After a friendly chat and giggling, both veteran players went to their own teams for warmups. In professional games, such heartfelt moments are captured as it celebrates sportsmanship. Though seeing an opponent won’t always make one feel ecstatic, Maroon was happy to see Kane doing alright.

In a mic ’d-up moment that caught the conversation between the two, Maroon was heard saying, “My son told me I did it. I didn’t even know I did it”. “My bad, I guess.”  The pair then fist-bumped and returned to their position.

After the Oilers’ 5-3 victory over the Lightning, Kane told the reporters, “It felt fine”. “No issues tonight other than my finish. I guess I can’t expect too much, but yeah, we had some looks. The team played well. We got two points against a really good team and I had my looks tonight, which was a positive and I’ll just try to build off that.”

Though none of them had any point in the win, both their conversation and gesture warmed up the fan’s hearts. Kane after returning to the lineup this week has skated for an average ice time of 17:07 while having a go at 9 shots.

Currently, under a 4-year $20.5 million contract, Evander Kane has recorded 13 points in 16 games with 5 goals and 8 assists for the 2022-23 NHL season. He has a total score of 558 with 291 goals and 267 assists in 828 games in his professional career.
