Pat Maroon DENIES apology from Jack Edwards once again for on-air body shaming comments

More than unwilling, it would be appropriate to say that Tampa Bay Lightning forward Pat Maroon is disinterested to bring up the body shaming incident from November last year. Unfortunately, this doesn’t seem to be the case for Jack Edwards.
Even after the online bout, Edwards is sticking around Maroon to apologize for the on-air incident though the forward has already cemented it out. In a recent game against Bruins, Edwards reached out to Maroon in the Lightning’s locker room after their morning practice.
According to Lightning insider Erik Erlendsson, “It’s not exactly going well for Edwards” while further adding, “it’s evident that Maroon is still displeased with the situation”. Truly it’s not a situation anyone would like to revisit again, especially not after the online trolling.
Pat Maroon uninterested in Jack Edwards’ apology
Following Jack Edwards’ comment on Pat Maroon’s weight, the Bolt’s forward arranged a charity event donating $2k in Edwards’ name to the Tampa Bay Thrives organization. This organization helps people struggling with mental health, eating disorders, and body image issues.
It was a classic move by Maroon who took the high road yet managed to punch Edward back with words and actions. His event was even backed by ex-NHLer Bobby Ryan who tweeted, “Pat Maroon doesn’t care about Jack Edwards”. “He’s been ‘fat Pat’ since we were 7 years old.”
“He has three cups, a bunch of money, and a beautiful family. My tweet lasted longer than his thoughts about some announcer calling him big. He’s the big rig. Doesn’t change his day!”
As for what Edwards commented, “That was Day 1 of training camp”. “I’ve got a feeling he’s had a few more pizzas between then and now.” “(Intermittent) fasting for Pat Maroon is like four hours without a meal. But hey, three Cups in a row, who can argue with his formula?”
After the incident, Edwards made clumsy attempts to seek forgiveness from the forward who was even then unwilling to let it go. Edwards noted, “I am sensitive to the subject of body image and I didn’t intend to offend anyone.”
“In the course of a two-and-a-half hour broadcast, it was a light-hearted attempt to point out that Pat Maroon, who I also regularly praise for his camaraderie with teammates through the years, uses his size to be a difficult competitor.”
“He’s an effective player with three Stanley Cup rings — something I also made it a point to say Tuesday night. I have reached out to the Lightning to connect with Pat.”
To which Maroon commented, “I was in awe”. “My team thought it was fucked up, so I felt better in that sense”. “I didn’t want to react stupidity”. “I was steaming”. Maroon said that when the joke comes from his teammates or family he usually shrugs it off as he knows they don’t mean any harm.
Unfortunately, someone unknown to him joking about his weight is not what he’ll take lightly. Moreover, the incident was about the rudeness a commentator started that too on-air. Even with New Year, it seems Maroon is not ready to turn a new leaf to Edwards’ comments.
