The question that has been lingering regarding Jonathan Toews’ return date has finally been answered. The Chicago Blackhawks captain won’t be returning to the team after the 2022-23 season. He played his final game as a Hawks at United Center against Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday.

Toews has been suffering from long-term COVID-19 symptoms and Chronic Immune Response System. It made his day-to-day life difficult, still the 34-year-old held onto practices and rehabilitation to bounce back on ice. Unfortunately, his condition is not up to par, and the team is also looking forward to rebuilding.

Since being announced as the captain back on July 18, 2008, Toews has time and again etched history in their franchise record. He is 5th in Blackhawks’ history with 1,066 games played, 6th in goals with 371, 8th in assists with 511, and 6th in points with 882.

Even Marc-Andre Fleury praised Toews and his games, stating there’s no one like him on ice. “I think that’s enough of a compliment for me,” Toews honored all his teammates, stating without them he wouldn’t have been able to achieve any of his personal records.
