Sidney Crosby said that he remembers the day as if it was just yesterday, “Just an unbelievable memory”. “It’s crazy and scary to think that it’s been ten years (laughs). I can’t believe it’s been that long already.”

“But when I think back, it was just an amazing experience at the Olympics being Canadian in Canada – but having it finish off that way was pretty special,” he relished in the old memories talking about it last year on February 28.

Throughout Crosby’s magical NHL moments, the 2010 Vancouver Olympics surely holds the highest rank. The then-22-year-old achieved a record that’ll go down in sports history. Crosby further delves into his memories, talking about how he felt after clinching that goal, and the feeling of the win that washed over him.

The Canadiens took a 2-0 lead going into 2nd period from the goals of Jonathan Toews and Corey Perry. Unfortunately for them, the Americans hit it hard in 3rd period, tying the game and forcing it into overtime. Going into the 8-minute mark in OT, Crosby circled the puck up the boards to Jarome Iginla, bolting it toward the net.

The cry that was heard from Crosby following the goal became popular around the hockey world, “IGGY!” Without Iginla’s pass, Crosby may not have been able to make the shot, so his shoutout was on spot. Crosby talked about the magical moment following the golden goal.

“Just as a kid growing up watching the Olympics, dreaming of playing for Team Canada – to be part of that whole experience and just the way it all worked out was really special”. “I mean, we won a gold medal. Regardless of the outcome, it would have been special in its own right – but to finish that way, it’s every kid’s dream,” he said.
