- Nick Wright criticized LaMelo Ball after his poor first half, where he scored only two points.
- The Charlotte Hornets lost 121-90 to the Orlando Magic, missing the playoffs again.
- Wright proposed trading Ball to the Milwaukee Bucks, sparking further tension with the Ball family.
Sports analyst Nick Wright and the Ball family have a bit of a feud going on involving LaMelo Ball. Wright did not hold back after Ball’s astonishingly poor first half, in which he scored just two points. While he did end his night with 23 points, it was not enough to get them over the hump as the Charlotte Hornets suffered a 121-90 demolition against the Orlando Magic at the Kia Center on Friday night.
After a poor first-half showing, Wright took to X and took shots at Ball in his post.
The Hornets could use an actual leader right now.

The strong criticism from Nick Wright came after the analyst called LaMelo Ball committed a dirty play on Bam Adebayo in the second quarter of their first Play-In Tournament game. It was a controversial play as Adebayo injured his lower back and was ruled out for the remainder of the match.
Following the game, Wright called LaMelo a “clown” and an immature player. The comments on the Hornets guard did not sit well with the Ball family. Lavar Ball and Lonzo Ball stuck out for the youngest member of the Ball family and went after Wright. Since then, a feud appears to be brewing between the two parties.
The publicized feud has generated reactions from others as well. While some berated Ball for his actions, some believed that Wright crossed a line for calling him a clown. With the Hornets out of the playoff picture, it remains to be seen if there will be any pushback from the Ball family after Wright’s latest social media post.
Nick Wright calls for LaMelo Ball to be traded to the Milwaukee Bucks
LaMelo Ball was drafted by the Hornets as the number three pick in the 2020 NBA draft. While Ball has shown growth and improvements in his game since his rookie year, he has struggled with various injuries in his six-year NBA career. However, he has yet to lead the franchise to the playoffs since his arrival. Their last appearance in the playoffs came in the 2015-16 campaign.
Following the Hornets’ loss, Nick Wright kept pouring oil on the fire. He proposed a trade that would send Ball to the Milwaukee Bucks.
The Hornets get to compete for the East with Giannis leading Kon & Brandon Miller. The Bucks get to be super popular on TikTok while they rebuild.

There have been a lot of reports surrounding Giannis Antetokounmpo‘s exit from the Bucks throughout the 2025-26 campaign. While no move was materialized, it is highly likely that the Greek superstar is on his way out in the offseason. Wright’s trade proposal will definitely not go down well with the Ball family.
LaMelo Ball had an off 2025-26 season by his standards
When the Hornets drafted LaMelo Ball in 2020, they were hoping that the young star would be the future face of the franchise. The 24-year-old has had some special moments during his tenure, but it is looking clear that he may not be the leader they are looking for in the years to come.

Ball has seen a dip in his numbers in almost all categories. He had his worst scoring season since his rookie year. The 2025-26 campaign saw him average 20.1 points, 4.8 rebounds and 7.8 assists in 72 appearances.
The Hornets have been one of the best teams since the turn of the year. But the star of the show was not Ball. It was rookie Kon Knueppel, who is a favorite for the Rookie of the Year award. The club will have some thinking to do in the offseason.
The second half of the campaign was promising signs for the Hornets. A player of Antetokounmpo’s caliber, surrounded by Knueppel and Brandon Miller, would elevate the Hornets to championship contenders for the next few years.
