The Green Bay Packers helped Micah Parsons debut with a win after they demolished the Detroit Lions. Ahead of today’s game against the Washington Commanders, Jordan Love and his teammates knew their goal of winning was not going to be easy.

Over the past few days, most of the attention has been on their star pass rusher, whose move from the Cowboys dominated headlines. He did have an explosive start to his new life at Lambeau Stadium, and the hope is that he will wreak havoc.

But before he could get on with his task as one of the most important defensive players for the Packers, the country’s attention was diverted towards the assassination of Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University yesterday.

The 31-year-old was holding an open table when a sniper bullet pierced his neck, leaving him motionless. A while later, President Donald Trump announced that Kirk was dead, and that sent the country into uproar.

The league did not release an official statement, but it was noted that the New York Yankees observed a moment of silence soon after his death. Several people asked what the NFL would do, especially after the stance players and teams took after George Floyd’s death.

It seems the league took the matter seriously and collaborated with the Green Bay Packers to hold a moment of silence. Players, coaches, and the packed Lambeau Stadium stood in silence for the fallen Kirk.

NFL players have been the loudest in pouring tributes for Charlie Kirk

Once news of the shooting rocked the nation, a slew of NFL players came out to pay tribute to Charlie Kirk. Countless former players spoke up, some sharing their grief upon his death.

Others spoke about how the country was in a fallen state, where people are not safe if their opinions differ. Some former players, such as Dez Bryant, lambasted those who were seemingly celebrating Charlie Kirk’s death.

Then there were current players such as Harrison Butker and rookie Jaxson Dart. The former offered prayers and support, while the latter wants the country to think about the direction they are heading.

He believes change is necessary. Otherwise, the country could plunge into chaos if every other person starts to take opinions to heart and resorts to violence to silence those he whom she does not agree.

Lamar Jackson, who once courted heat for liking some of Charlie Kirk’s opinions, was the most prominent sports personality asking people to stop cheering someone’s tragic death.

Jordan Love and Packers take charge of home game

This time, however, the Packers were prepared to handle the visiting team and stopped them to just two field goal attempts in the 1st half from 5 drives.

On the other hand, Jordan Love set the tone for his team when he trucked Commanders’ safety Quan Martin on a 3rd and 9 to garner a 1st down. On the next play, he threw a 5-yard pass to Romeo Doubs to draw the 1st numbers on the scoreboard.

It is not as if the Packers were having a free run at their opponents, as the latter also stopped the home team from scoring on every drive they attempted. Despite that, Love and his teammates continued to score in every quarter and held the Commanders without a touchdown for the first three quarters.

In the 4th quarter, last year’s rookie sensation Jayden Daniels finally connected with veteran tight end Zach Ertz to score the Commanders’ first TD.

At a time when they reduced the deficit, the Packers immediately responded with another touchdown and a field goal. They won the game with a score of 27-18 to lead the NFL after two games.
