Badminton player Saina Nehwal is a household name in India. The former World No. 1 has won over 24 international titles that included a whopping 11 Superseries titles. She has also represented India at the Olympics thrice and has won a bronze medal (at the London 2012 Olympics). She is considered to be one of the most successful Indian sportspersons ever and has been conferred with the Padma Bushan, Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna and the Arjuna Award by the Government of India.

In 2018, a biographical film on her journey titled ‘Saina’ was announced to be made. The film directed by Amole Gupte and produced by Bhushan Kumar under the banner of T-Series is currently in the production stage. The film was originally supposed to star Shraddha Kapoor but the actress opted out due to scheduling conflicts meaning Parineeti Chopra was chosen to play the titular role in the movie.

Parineeti Chopra visited her on-screen character’s parents yesterday as a part of preparation for the movie and Saina took to Instagram to share a picture of her family with the actress. She captioned it, “Looking forward’.

Earlier in October, Saina Nehwal and her husband Parupalli Kashyap pulled out of the Denmark Open Super 750 tournament which restarted the badminton calendar following the COVID-19 pandemic. “I withdrew from Denmark Open. I decided that I will start the season from January only with the Asian tour,” Saina said.
