Cris Cyborg, one of the legends of female Mixed Martial Arts, has held world titles in every promotion she competed in. At present, she is the Bellator women’s featherweight champion. After the Bellator-PFL merger, fans expected a fight between Cyborg and Kayla Harrison. However, the PFL wanted a fight between Cyborg and Larissa Pacheco, the PFL women’s featherweight champion.
Recently, Cyborg took to X to bash Harrison. This is what she tweeted about Harrison.
I am disappointed to hear that after @PeteMurrayPFL offered me the date and location for a fight against @KaylaH and after we accepted the bout that she has now declined the offer.Cris Cyborg via X
Cyborg stated that Harrison declined to fight with her. She put all the blame on Harrison for the fight not happening. Harrison has not yet responded to the allegations. Cyborg was already part of a super fight when she fought Amanda Nunes in the UFC. She lost the fight via first-round KO. After Cyborg lost her professional MMA debut, she went undefeated for 13 years before she lost to Nunes in the featherweight title fight.
Nunes became the first female double champion with the victory. Cyborg targeted a rematch with Nunes, but her problems with Dana White and the UFC put a halt on those plans. Now, fans eagerly wait for a fight between Harrison and Cyborg. Currently, it is the biggest fight that can be made in women’s mixed martial arts.
PFL heads to 2024 with the strongest women’s featherweight roster in MMA
The UFC created a women’s featherweight division specifically for Cris Cyborg. However, after she lost the title to Amanda Nunes, there were no actual featherweights in the UFC. Most of them were bantamweight, not cutting weight. Moreover, the UFC never had a ranking system for featherweight.
Amanda Nunes retired after she defended her bantamweight title at UFC 289. The UFC does not have a featherweight champion in the division, and there are no indications from the UFC for having one. The Bellator merger with the PFL got Cris Cyborg, Kayla Harrison, and Larissa Pacheco under the same banner.
When Nunes was active, she was the best fighter in the division. Now, the PFL has a division that is superior to the UFC. The UFC has the most stacked divisions among all promotions except for women’s featherweight. As per Fight Matrix, the UFC only has Norma Dumont in the featherweight rankings.
