In hindsight, John Cena‘s WWE retirement was coming any day. Despite it hovering over the fans in the past few months, no one could actually believe what they had heard out of their protagonist’s mouth at Money in the Bank just a matter of days ago. The 47-year-old announced a retirement tour that would stretch till the conclusion of 2025 if everything went as planned.

More importantly, next year’s WrestleMania in Las Vegas will be the last one Cena’s ever competed in. For those wondering who could be standing in The Cenation Leader’s way in Sin City, here’s a scoop. Per Bet Online, John’s longtime rival and 14-time World Champion Randy Orton is currently best placed to be the wrestler-turned-actor’s antagonist in the latter’s swansong.

Orton’s a heavy favorite for the spot at +150, followed by Cody Rhodes (+200), CM Punk (+500), The Rock (+800), and Roman Reigns (+900). Despite the fact that next year’s Showcase of the Immortals is The Franchise Player’s last dance, he would not be done just then. As confirmed at the Money in the Bank post-show press conference, the Peacemaker star is eyeing somewhere between 30 and 40 WWE dates in 2025. He even teased chasing the world title for a record 17th time.

However, John admitted that one needs to earn a crack at the top prize, and he’s way off in his quest considering his lamentable track record of late. But who knows if The Champ has one last Royal Rumble left in him? A win over there would guarantee the WWE legend a world title shot at WrestleMania 41. It would be interesting to see whether Cena exudes that never say die attitude when he does return.

CM Punk wants to wrestle John Cena before he calls it a day

From the list of matches the fans would love to see out of John Cena‘s retirement tour, a no-brainer would be to have CM Punk go at his arch-nemesis one last time. This past Monday on Raw, The Best in the World congratulated the Ricky Stanicky actor on having such an illustrious career in WWE.

Punk went on to say that he’d want to lace up those boots once more with the man he has a storied folklore. The Second City Saint even joked during the Money in the Bank press conference that he’d the one to drag Cena out of retirement.

The two veterans shared a wholesome moment backstage at Saturday’s PLE. They might have something left on-screen as well. The WWE Universe can expect the 16-time World Champion to be back for his last ride as early as Christmas.
