In Short
  • Rashee Rice has been sentenced to 30 days in jail for violating probation after testing positive for THC.
  • He recently underwent knee surgery that will sideline him for two months.
  • The Kansas City Chiefs may need to reconsider Rice's future with the team due to his ongoing legal troubles.

Until Patrick Mahomes returns, the Kansas City Chiefs were expected to lean on Justin Fields, Rashee Rice, Kenneth Walker, and their plethora of young offensive stars to keep the chains moving.

Head coach Andy Reid has confidence in Fields as a starter, even though many have pointed to his lackluster performances in the past few years as an indication of his lack of true talent at the quarterback position.

The franchise has decided to develop its young offensive line, and even went to the extent of releasing Jawaan Taylor. Then comes the running back group, and the Chiefs have invested heavily.

Naturally, Walker’s signing takes the cake, but the group is deep. When it comes to the receiving room, a lot depends on Rice and his ability to stay out of trouble.

They lost Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown to the Eagles, which means the 26-year-old becomes the de facto leader. But when leaders struggle to stay clean, it raises the question whether the franchise should move on.

Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice has been ordered to spend 30 days in jail for violating his probation. Rice was taken into custody after he tested positive for THC, which violated the terms of his plea agreement in a high-speed, multi-vehicle crash in 2024 on a Dallas highway.

This is the same pass catcher for whom his teammates received flak for donning the ‘Free Rashee Rice’ t-shirts last year. The former second-round pick cannot stay out of trouble, and this time, he will miss all the team’s OTAs and minicamps.

Rashee Rice’s surgery will keep him out for two months

If the 30-day jail term was not enough, the Kansas City Chiefs will also have to digest the fact that Rashee Rice will not be with them for a long period.

One week before being ordered to serve 30 days in jail, Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice underwent a clean-up surgery on his right knee to remove loose debris that was causing inflammation and now is expected to sideline him two months, league sources told ESPN.

This is the same knee that Patrick Mahomes inadvertently took out while trying to tackle a Chargers player after being picked off. A clean-up surgery is not serious, and he can recover quickly.

To lose two months while at the Chiefs’ facilities, communicating with teammates and coaches, is one thing. To spend half of that in jail, fighting to fend off other criminals, is another.

By this time, many are starting to wonder whether Rice can ever stay out of trouble. If this continues, the Chiefs could be forced into making a tough decision.

Former Chief trolls Rashee Rice’s rehab plan

With every incident that has transpired ever since Rashee Rice became a member of the Kansas City Chiefs, one might wonder how his teammates put up with this.

The absolute best rehab plan a week after surgery is being in jail for 30 days. That’s what they always say.

The Super Bowl LIV-winning offensive tackle’s tweet suggests he finds this situation as absurd as it can get. He may not have played alongside Rice, but for his former team to continue to put up with this is as mind-blowing as it can get.

Rice will be eligible for a major payday if he can stay clean and produce a standout season when he returns from his recovery and time behind bars. But the primary question is whether he can shed his habit of looking for trouble around every corner of Kansas City.
