“I’d Like a Change to the Racecar!” Ryan Blaney Urges NASCAR to Fix Next-Gen Car Design Flow After Massive Talladega Wreck
2023 Cup Series champion Ryan Blaney has shared his thoughts on how the Next-Gen cars design needs to fix after Talladega drama.

The Talladega Cup race on Sunday witnessed one of the biggest wrecks in the track’s history. An aggressive move from Ross Chastain during duel with Bubba Wallace caused an incident that collected 25 cars. Fomer champions’ Ryan Blaney, Kyle Larson and Joey Logano DNF-ed after the big-one.
Talking to the media after the incident, the 2023 champion pointed out that the Next-Gen car has a serious design flow that needs to be fixed immediately. He pointed out that the sport and driver are better than just earning position by running through each other.
I don’t know. I’m not sure. I mean obviously I’d like a change to the racecar. I think we can be better at these speedways, just how the car races and just try to be not as all on top of each other and just running through each other and stuff like that.
Ryan Blaney told Matt Weaver.
"This is just what this car is, you said it, we're either saving fuel or we're crashing."

The racing at superspeedways has become more about fuel saving or over aggressive racing. This kills the entrainment value of Superspeedway racing that has always been the biggest money maker for the sport. Significant changes need to be made to the body of the cars for better races in the future.
I mean I’ve obviously got my hand up wanting to make a change. Because you said it perfectly, we’re either fuel saving or we’re running all over each other, just because that’s what this car is and that’s how you go forward. You’re running through and it’s however hard you can push somebody.
Ryan Blaney added.
The No:12 Ford Mustang driver pointed out that the current cars are really unstable and needs immediate change. But Ryan Blaney knowns it’s fruitless to assume that a change will happen this season as he is expecting NASCAR to step in ahead of the 2027 speed week at Daytona.
The cars are pretty unstable in the back, they kind of get tank swapping or they get ping-ponging and they just can’t take it…I don’t really see it changing this year at all. I don’t think you can during the middle of the year. I mean you could, but I feel like hopefully that speed weeks deal in January, we can try a lot of stuff out.
Ryan Blaney asserted.
Joey Logano exposes the key design issues with the Next-Gen cars
Team Penske Racing’s three times Cup champion Joey Logano also shared his thoughts on the situation. He pointed out that the bumper of the Next-Gen car is a major issue as it has been the key reason for the big wrecks, as it hard to push straight for the drivers. With drafting being a big part for success at Superspeedways, it needs immediate fixing.

It seems like those are the two options right now. We’ve seen both options today. Just we got round bumpers and unstable cars and cars that you’re able to pop the bubble real easy and get to each other’s bumpers, but when you get there you’ve got to be careful because they’re not stable. It’s like pushing two basketballs against each other, it’s not going to push straight. They’re not two bricks.
Joey Logano said.
NASCAR needs to listen to the two former Cup champions of Ford as they have valid points regarding the car. They have made some good changes to the car by listening to the racers and increasing the horsepower for 2026. They need to do the same for 2027 regarding the design for much better race product.
