During Mexican Independence Day weekend, Ryan Garcia put up his WBC welterweight title on the line against Conor Benn. The bout didn’t last long as Garcia’s lightning quick strikes forced the referee to stop the fight at 1:25 of the second round.
There was much anticipation about Garcia facing off against Benn due to how ‘King Ry’ promotes his fights. Fans can expect Garcia to go all out with his trash-talks and antics before entering the ring.
Meanwhile, Conor Benn is not someone who will back down from any threat. The duo had various viral interactions throughout the build-up with UFC CEO Dana White promoting the bout.

The matchup between Garcia and Benn was teased several months ago when Zuffa Boxing signed the British boxer on a lucrative deal. It was the perfect fight to headline Mexican Independence Day weekend with Canelo Alvarez out injured.
The weight difference between the boxers on fight night was massive to say the least. According to reports, the promotion asked Garcia and Benn to weigh in on the scale after arriving to the arena tonight. Garcia did so and weighed in at 151 pounds, but Benn refused.

Benn declined, but said yesterday that he had rehydrated up to 178 lbs

Meanwhile, Benn posted a video yesterday showing how much he rehydrated after weighing in successfully below the 147 pound limit. In that video, Benn weighed in at 178 pounds.

Despite the massive difference in weight, Garcia’s speed secured him the TKO win. Benn started the bout with aggression, but ‘King Ry’ remained composed throughout the early exchanges.
Eventually, the aggression of Benn left him open to counter-strikes. In the second round, Garcia landed huge right hand that knocked the British star down. Once the referee continued the bout, Garcia rushed Benn with massive strikes that forced the stoppage.
Fans believe that the bout was stopped a tad bit early. However, Benn didn’t look that great once he got back up to his feet, justifying the referee’s decision.
Following the stoppage, ‘King Ry’ called out Teofimo Lopez to enter the ring. However, the security team didn’t let that happen.
Ryan Garcia looks terrifying at 147 pounds whereas Benn will have to move up to secure his first world title in boxing.
Eddie Hearn predicted Conor Benn losing to Ryan Garcia
Conor Benn and Eddie Hearn had a very close relationship before the British boxer signed with Zuffa Boxing. During the tough times of Benn’s career, Hearn made sure to fight for his client without holding anything back.

The drug testing scandal sidelined Benn for a long time, and he couldn’t fight in the UK. Hearn defended him endlessly when British Boxing Board of Control didn’t sanction his fight.
This is why their relationship became rocky after Benn rejected a new deal with Hearn to sign with Zuffa Boxing. Since then, Hearn has not held back.
Ahead of the Garcia vs Benn bout, Hearn gave his prediction on how the matchup would turn out. It is safe to say that Hearn predicted the result properly although Benn didn’t go out cold.
If he (Benn) gets hit flush on the chin at 147 against Ryan Garcia, the fight is over. So he’s got to rely on his ability but he likes to engage, he likes to jump in. Ryan is so reactive, he’s a great counter puncher.

At this point, the relationship between Hearn and Benn will not go back to how it was before. Bridges were burnt when the British boxer signed with Hearn’s competition.
Benn revealed that he would not stay at 147 pounds after facing Garcia. It remains to be seen if the 29-year-old will find success in the upper weight classes moving forward.
