Kenneth Walker is slowly getting his groove back. He was a doubt for the Seattle Seahawks’ week 4 fixture against the Detroit Lions as he missed a couple of days of practice during the week.
The Seahawks gave Walker the green signal, and he started behind quarterback Geno Smith. However, the Lions began the game at breathtaking speed.
Quarterback Jared Goff set up back-to-back touchdowns for David Montgomery (1 yard) and Jahmyr Gibbs (3 yards) as the Lions took a 14-0 lead. Walker gained some much-needed yards in between, but one promising drive ended after wide receiver DK Metcalf miscued a 29-yard pass from Smith.
Smith eventually set up Kenneth Walker for a rushing touchdown that involved 10 plays and a gain of 70 yards. The highlight of the attack was the 23-year-old’s Rolly-Polley in the midfield.

Walker received the ball from Geno around the 40-yard mark, but the Lions’ linebacker Alex Anzalone quickly hunted him down. When it was certain that Anzalone would stop Walker’s run, he pulled off a somersault—not once but twice—with excellent body control and got away until the tag team of Kerby Joseph and Jack Campbell brought him down.
Kenneth Walker is an underrated running back
There are always some players who go under the radar at every position. Amidst the queue of Christian McCaffrey, Derrick Henry, and Saquon Barkley, players like Kenneth Walker’s output go unnoticed.
Ever since the Seahawks drafted the former Michigan State graduate—a program that has given the NFL players like Le’Veon Bell and Sedrick Irvin (cousin of HOF Michael Irvin)—he has been electric. The league included Walker in the 2022 PFA all-rookie team after he recorded 228 carries for 1050 yards (4.6 yards per carry) and 9 rushing touchdowns. Additionally, he caught 27 passes for 165 yards from Smith.
In his second year, Walker started 15 games in which he carried the ball 219 times for 905 yards and scored 8 touchdowns along with 29 catches for 259 yards and 1 touchdown. The Pro Football Focus graded his 2023 season with 83.5 points.
Walker was originally part of the Wake Forest program in college until his transfer to Michigan in 2021. In his only season with the Spartans, he had 263 carries for 1636 rushing yards (6.2 yards per carry) and 18 touchdowns. The Seattle Seahawks drafted him 41st overall in the second round (2022).
