In Berlin’s World Aquatics Swimming World Cup, Riley Gaines, an ex-college swimmer, voiced her disappointment about the absence of transgender athletes in the event. Regardless of gender, anyone can now participate in the Swimming World Cup in Berlin, as a new category has been introduced this year, according to World Aquatics.

A new classification for transgender athletes was planned by the World Aquatics to be included in the World Cup in Berlin. Nevertheless, the plan had to be canceled due to the lack of participation from transgender athletes.

Last year, the governing body of swimming made a ruling to prohibit transgender women from competing among professional female athletes. Despite this, they had given their word to put together a unique program as a way of reaffirming their continued support for inclusivity and their acceptance of all genders.

At present, the plan to have races of 50 meters and 100 meters for all swimming strokes, along with separate competitions for men and women, is not being put into action. The official confirmation reveals that there were no registrations made for the open category competitions at the World Aquatics Swimming World Cup Berlin 2023 during the period from October 6–8.

If transgender women have undergone male puberty, World Aquatics prohibits them from competing in elite female competitions. Research has indicated that transgender women, even after taking medication to lower their testosterone levels, continue to display a noticeable superiority over female swimmers, prompting the adoption of this decision.

In an unprecedented move, World Aquatics is introducing a unique competition that diverges from traditional men’s and women’s events in Olympic sports. The project’s first attempt was unsuccessful, but the governing body is receptive to reattempting it, potentially concentrating on hosting swimming competitions targeting people over 35 years old.

In the World Cup, World Aquatics and FINA have made the decision to include an additional Open Category for swimming. The purpose of this was to ensure equal opportunities for all participants and to increase the number of people involved. No one entered. This demonstrates the underlying cause or objective.

“Can’t cheat, won’t compete,” she said in a post on X Utilizing social media, Riley Gaines took the opportunity to ridicule the news, despite their strong opposition to transgender individuals in women’s sports. Additionally, she stated that this unveiled the genuine motive behind transgender athletes’ behaviors.

The achievement of American swimmer Lia Thomas contributed to the reception of votes in June 2022 for another reason. Lia’s performance as a male collegiate swimmer was respectable; however, following her transition to a female, she emerged victorious in the national college championship for women. Other sports organizations, such as track and field and biking, have taken comparable actions within the last year.
