‘Maybe it will happen one day!’ 11-year old Emma Raducanu on being a grand slam champion

British teen sensation Emma Raducanu has been the talk of almost every town since the last week. She created history by becoming the player to win a grand slam as a qualifier when she beat fellow teenager Leylah Fernandez in the final of the US Open.
She also became the first British woman to win the US Open in almost 50 years. Now, an old video of Raducanu has resurfaced on the web. 11-year old Emma is seen competing in one of the junior finals and also gave an interview after that. She said that she likes competing and travelling and hence wants to become a tennis player.
“I like competing, and traveling around the world, and playing tennis,” Raducanu said.
On her tennis idols, Emma, who has a Chinese mother, said that he idolizes Li Na because of her work ethic and is also a huge Roger Federer fan because of his sheer class.
“I like Li Na because she has. like, a really good work ethic and she’s got really good movement around the court,” Raducanu said. “Roger Federer from the men, because he just moves around so swiftly and makes it look easy.”

Emma lost that junior final and later said that she played every well but unfortunately, her opponent won.
“I’ve had a few tough matches, but I managed to pull my game together and get through them,” Raducanu said. “I am glad to make the final and it was a tough match today. [My opponent] played really well. I think I played well, but unfortunately, she won,” 11-year old Emma said.
At the end, when asked whether like fellow countryman, Andy Murray she would want to win a major and dreams about it, Emma said that she understands that winning a slam requires a lot of hard work but was positive that it will happen one day.
“I know it’s really hard work, but hopefully, if I like, work on my game and pull it together, then maybe, it will happen for me one day,” she added.
And that day came for Emma 7 years later in 2021. The old video will definitely put a smile on Emma Raducanu- The US Open champion’s face!
