“I love playing tennis…I haven’t been able to do that as much as I’d like,” an emotional Andy Murray tears up after winning his first match on grass since 2018

Former World No.1 Andy Murray registered his first win on grass since 2018 and got emotional afterwards while expressing the passion he has for the sport.

‘Like he never left’ Andy Murray returned on grass after 3 years and owned the court like he never left. The wild card Briton got the better of Frenchman Benoit Paire in straight sets 6-3,6-2 in the first round at Queen’s Club in London. The former world no.1 couldn’t compete on his beloved grass since 2018 due to various injuries.

Murray was dominant for majority of the match and got momentum because off a quick start. He broke Paire’s serve and took a 4-1 lead, holding serve very well. The Scott came under some pressure on serve early on in the second set as Paire took a 0-30 lead but he eventually held on.

The double Wimbledon champion then held serve comfortably for remainder of the set, breaking the Frenchman twice and winning it 6-2. This was Murray’s first victory since Rotterdam earlier this year.

Andy Murray’s glorious career was affected a lot by injuries since 2017. He still isn’t able to compete at the highest level like he used to do previously. Right so, an emotional Murray teared up while expression his passion for the sport.

“The body is old. But I did quite well today in terms of my movement and stuff. It was my first match on grass in three years, I’ve only played three or four practice sets in the build-up so didn’t know how I was going to play or feel, so for a first match it was good.”

“I love playing tennis,” Murray added as she started to break down. “Sorry… Obviously competing is why you put in the hard work and in the last few years I haven’t been able to do that as much as I’d like, so it’s great to be out here and competing again.”

Murray, a 5-time champion at Queen’s will now have a huge task in front of him as he faces top seed and in form Matteo Berrettini in the Round of 16 on Wednesday.
