The 2021 WTA season has concluded with Garbine Muguruza winning the WTA Finals. The year saw four different grand slam champions with Barbora Krejcikova and Emma Raducanu winning their major slam. Ashleigh Barty is the current world number 1 in the WTA rankings. She has bagged the Wimbledon this year. Along with that she has two WTA 1000 titles and she has a doubles Olympics bronze this year as well.
Barbora Krejcikova is in a dream form right now. She stormed into the top 3 of the WTA rankings this year which is the highest ranking that she has reached. She has won both the singles as well as doubles French open. Moreover, she has also won the doubles gold in the Summer Olympics this year.
Aryna Sabalenka is currently ranked 2nd in the WTA rankings. Sabalenka entered 2021 on a 9 match winning streak. She was ranked number 1 in doubles, won the Australian Open doubles title and even made a WTA finals debut this year.
Karolina Pliskova is currently ranked 4th in the WTA rankings. This year for Pliskova has been termed as the resurgent year where she reached the Wimbledon final, WTA 1000 finals and returned to the top 3 for a short while.
Garbine Muguruza- the former Wimbledon winner also had a fairly good season. She won two titles, but she returned to the top 10 of the WTA rankings, won the WTA Finals, and will be finishing the year ranked 3rd.
Emma Raducanu amongst the highest earning athletes
Emma Raducanu has been the emerging star of 2021. She came out of nowhere to win the US open which made her an overnight star. Until then nobody probably knew her, she entered the US open by playing qualifiers. However, that being said she deserved every bit of it as she won the US Open without dropping a single set. She is currently has a career-high ranking of 19 in the WTA rankings.
Paulo Badosa is currently ranked 8th in the WTA rankings. She has won 2 titles this year. Her best result in a Grand Slam came this year after she reached the quarter-finals of the French Open.
Though Naomi Osaka had a lean season compared to her standards, still she managed to win the Australian Open this year which remains the only trophy in her cabinet this year. She did not play for the most part of the year as she took a break from tennis because of her mental health.

Elise Mertens, who you would not find too high in the WTA rankings but she has proven herself to be an excellent doubles player as she won both the Wimbledon and Australian Open this year as a doubles player. Maria Sakkari failed to win any title this year, but still, she gave some determined performances which saw her reach the semi-finals of both the US Open and French Open. She made history by making the WTA Finals. Through these performances, she stormed into the top 10 of the WTA rankings.
