Dominic Thiem vs Cameron Norrie: Preview
US Open champion, Dominic Thiem is one of the best Clay court players on tour currently. He was in the final of the 2018 and 2019 Roland Garros where he lost to Rafael Nadal on both occasions. But after winning the US Open last year, he has struggled with physical and mental issues.
This Clay season, he has played two tournaments and made it into the semifinals at Madrid Masters where he lost to eventual champion Alexander Zverev. In Rome, he was looking in good touch before losing to Lorenzo Sonego in a tough three set match.
His opponent, Cameron Norrie has been in good form this Clay season. He reached the Final of the Estoril Open and also reached the quarterfinals of Barcelona Open before losing to Nadal.
He has defeated some big names this season including Cristian Garin and David Goffin. In Lyon, he got the better of Corentin Moutet in straight sets 7-5,6-3 to make it into the Round of 16.
Dominic Thiem vs Cameron Norrie: Head-to-Head
This will be the second meeting between the duo. Thiem leads the H2H 1-0. They met at Acapulco in 2018 where Thiem won in three sets.
Dominic Thiem vs Cameron Norrie: Prediction
Dominic Thiem took a wild card to play this tournament to prepare for the French Open. Over the years, he has done very well on Clay and has gone into Paris with atleast one title in his bag and he would want to do the same this year with a title in Lyon.
He is playing well to and should clear the opening hurdle easily. As for Norrie, he is generating top spin very well and would fancy giving a fight to the Austrian provided he keeps his game clean. Nevertheless, expect Thiem to make it to the Last 8 comfortably.
Prediction: Thiem to win in straight sets.
