LISTEN: Tennis players predict the outcome of the ongoing Euro 2020

Tennis player and footballers have long enjoyed each other’s company. In fact, it is a regular sight these days to see tennis players attending football matches and vice-versa. It is also well established that Rafael Nadal is an avid football fan and often goes to see his favourite team Real Madrid play.
Besides Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Alexander Zverev and Dan Evans are also lovers of football. With the ongoing Euro 2020, the following for the sport has gone up a notch and despite busy schedules, tennis players are keeping a keen eye on the proceedings in the mega event in Europe.
At the ATP Halle in Germany, several tennis players were asked to comment on the latest happenings in the Euro Cup and were also asked to pick their respective winners.
World No.6 Zverev had little hesitation in picking his nation Germany to go all the way. Meanwhile, Bautista Agut stuck to his motherland, Spain. However, Britain’s Dan Evans interestingly picked Italy as the winner. The Spaniard further said that the young team Spanish team will be motivated with a new coach. Feliciano Lopez was torn between France and Spain. As expected, Jannik Sinner picked his country Italy to bring home the Cup.
Daniil Medvedev backs France
Explaining his logic, World No.2 Daniil Medvedev said, “If I am being rational, I would say France because I think they have the best team, but I really like the way Italy plays. They are on a crazy match-winning streak. So I will pick dark horses, Italy.”
Tomorrow’s matches in the Euro Cup will see Hungary taking on France, followed by Portugal vs Germany and the last game of the day will be between Spain and Poland.
At the moment, Portugal led by Cristiano Ronaldo are the defending Euro Cup champions after winning the title in 2016. That said, Spain won the title in 2012 and 2008.
Teams that have played two games and won them both in the tournament are Italy, Netherlands and Belgium.
