Kostyuk has been in the form of her life for the past week. The 18-year old Ukranian, despite ranked as low as 81, has shown that is the star in the making. What is astonishing is the fact that Kostyuk is yet to lose a set and moreover, shocked two-time Grand Slam champion and 12th-seed Garbine Muguruza in the first round itself. The Ukranian’s third round demolishing act (Kostyuk breezed past Varvara Gracheva in straight sets 6-1, 6-2) is also a testimony to the fact that she is destined to be a megastar in the coming years.
On the other hand, Swiatek does what she is best at, eking out wins after wins. The 20-year Polish woman, like Kostyuk hasn’t dropped a set yet, though her matches have been a little tighter. Swiatek is on a 10-match winning streak at Roland Garros, her latest victim being 30th-seed Anett Kontaveit, who she outclassed winning by 7-6, 6-0 in the third round. After Serena Williams, Swiatek is the hight ranked player left in the women’s draw and she is looking all set to defend her crown this Saturday.
