Daniil Medvedev vs Sam Querrey: Preview
Often regarded as a hard court specialist, Daniil Medvedev is just one step away from his first grass-court title. He has been in incredible form in the Mallorca Open 2021. Pablo Carreño Busta did stretch him to the third-set in the semi-final clash, however, the Russian made a wonderful comeback.
After dropping the first set, Daniil was a bit under pressure in the semi-final. However, he absolutely thrashed Busta in the following two sets to confirm his place in the finals. The unorthodox yet highly effective gameplay by Daniil allowed him to start his journey in Mallorca Open with a thumping win.
He absolutely bulldozed Corentin Moutet in straight sets in the first round. The World No.2 followed that up with a dominating performance in the quarter-finals where he defeated Casper Ruud in a similar fashion. On the other hand, Sam Querrey has had a dream run in the Mallorca Open.
Querrey went past Adrian Mannarino in the semi-final with relative ease. Winning 97% of the first serve points, Sam dominated the proceedings and ended up winning the contest in straight sets by 6-4, 6-3.
Daniil Medvedev vs Sam Querrey: Head to Head
These two players have faced each other only once in the past and Daniil Medvedev emerged victoriously in that particular encounter. Hence, Daniil leads the head-to-head record by 1-0.
Daniil Medvedev vs Sam Querrey: Prediction
Sam Querrey has been really hard to contain even for the top-seeded players in the Mallorca Open. He defeated third-seeded Roberto Bautista Agut in straight sets in the quarter-finals before going past Mannarino in the semis.
Although Sam has been terrific, the odds are surely in the favor of Daniil Medvedev. However, the Russian’s ordinary track record on grass and Sam’s immaculate form in the tournament suggests that this encounter has all the ingredients of a nail-biter.
Prediction: Daniil Medvedev to win in three sets
