Gael Monfils vs Mikael Ymer: Preview
Many didn’t believe that Gael Monfils could get past the opening round after he was drawn against in form Spaniard Albert Ramos Vinolas. But with the support of local fans, Monfils thrashed Ramos Vinolas in four cracking sets 1-6,7-6(6),6-4,6-4.
The first round victory will give the 14th seed lot of confidence as he has had a terrible Clay season before Roland Garros. However, he will be pumped as ever and will get a lot of support from fans against Mikael Ymer, his second round opponent.
Having lost the opening rounds in Lyon and Parma, the 105th-ranked Ymer from Sweden got his first main draw win on clay this year in Paris. He got the better of Spain’s Roberto Carballes Baena in a five set thriller 6-4,0-6,4-6,6-2,6-2.
Gael Monfils vs Mikael Ymer: Head-to-Head
This will be the first meeting between the two athletes. The two haven’t met before and hence the H2H stands deadlock at 0-0.
Gael Monfils vs Mikael Ymer: Prediction
It is a no brainer that former World No.6, Gael Monfils is very vulnerable this year on the dirt. But he has shown signs of improvement in the first round and the Frenchman never fails to put on a show in front of his local fans. Such might be the case on Thursday against Ymer.
Ymer will be wary of Monfils unorthodox abilities and will have to counter that with some clean and strong hitting from the baseline if he wants to trouble Monfils. Having said that, expect the Frenchman to cruise into the third round.
Prediction: Monfils to win in straight sets.
