Andy Murray has been slowly and steadily rising up the ranks on the ATP tour. He showed glimpses of old form at Wimbledon where he reached the third round and then reached the followed it up with second round outings at Cincinnati and Winston-Salem. He then played an incredible 5-set match against third seed Stefanos Tsitsipas in the first round of US Open but came out second best.

He then had a Round of 16 exit at Rennes Challenger where he lost to Roman Safiullin. In the first round at Metz, he beat in form 6th seed Ugo Humbert in three sets 4-6,6-3,6-2.

As for his opponent, Vasek Pospisil, he hasn’t been in he best of form this season. He was knocked out of the second round at Wimbledon where he lost to Frances Tiafoe. His poor form continued in the North-American hard court swing.

He lost his first match at the Hall of Fame Tennis Championships and then lost in the second round of Washington Open to 12th seed Sebastian Korda. He followed it up with a first round exit at the Toronto Masters and couldn’t make it past the qualifiers at the Cincinnati Masters. In the US Open, he was knocked out of the second round where he lost to Ilya Ivashka in straight sets. This week in Metz, he beat local Gregoire Barrere in the first round.
