American doubles specialist Rajeev Ram expresses his anger at the US Davis Cup team for excluding him from the Finals squad

The United States Tennis Association (USTA) has announced its team for the Davis Cup fixtures. The US Davis Cup Team includes ATP Finals 2022 semi-finalist Taylor Fritz, Frances Tiafoe, Jack Sock, and Tommy Paul. The first three players were part of Team World, which won the Laver Cup 2022, while Tommy Paul was included as an alternative. Mardy Fish will be the team captain.
However, one big name is missing from the list. Doubles specialist Rajeev Ram has failed to make it to the final cut, much to the disappointment of his fans. The announcement was made after the ATP Finals Championship doubles match, which he won with his British partner Joe Salisbury.
He was really upset with his omission. In the post-match conference, he mentioned it.
“Very disappointed. I put in a lot of hard work this year to help the team get there. I felt like I had earned the spot, if you will. So I was quite surprised when I wasn’t picked, and even more surprised, to be honest, that they only went with four players instead of five. That was the choice. But, yeah, I was hoping to be on the team for sure,” he said.
The Davis Cup Finals will be played in Malaga, Spain from November 22 to November 27. The USA, Canada, Germany, Australia, Spain, Croatia, the Netherlands, and Italy are the 8 teams that will battle it out to win the 2022 Davis Cup title.
A wonderful pair- Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury
Both Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury are doubles specialists. They tasted their first success when they won the 2020 Australian Open men’s doubles title together. In 2021, the pair played the Championship match of the Australian Open and won the 2021 Canadian Open. They won the 2021 US Open by defeating the British-Brazilian pair of Jamie Murray and Bruno Soares.
The 2022 season has been amazing for the American-British pair. They won the Monte Carlo Masters and Cincinnati Masters. They successfully defended their US Open men’s doubles title by defeating the British-Dutch pair of Neal Skupski and Wesley Koolhof in straight sets. They are ranked No.1 in the ATP rankings for men’s doubles.
Besides his successes in the men’s doubles, Rajeev Ram has also been successful in mixed doubles. He won the mixed doubles silver medal with Venus Williams in the 2016 Rio Olympics Games. He also played in the 2016 US Open mixed doubles title with Coco Vandeweghe. In 2020 and 2021, he won the Australian Open mixed doubles title with Barbora.
