Federer played his farewell match at the 2022 Laver Cup as he penned down a heartfelt letter to announce his retirement. His farewell was one of the most emotional nights to be witnessed in the history of tennis with each and every possible person including his arch-rivals in tears. The irony was that the Swiss lost his final singles as well as his final doubles event.

He played his last singles match at Wimbledon in 2021 followed by his third knee surgery that kept him out of action for months. Roger Federer opened up on his post-retirement plans where he revealed that he might take up the role of a coach in the future but it is not a part of his immediate plans. He admitted that he looks to spend time with his four kids.

During an interview, he stated that “Coaching…I mean, never say never. Stefan Edberg said the same, he will never coach, until he got the phone call from me and I invited him over for practice and he said ‘ok, let me try for a year. At the moment with my four children going to school and everything going on, I don’t see myself coaching at the moment.”

Continuing his train of thoughts, he added “If a junior comes around and he needs some support or advice I’m happy to do that. I think with the Next Gen development program here at UNIQLO, I will be doing more mentorship and inspirational kids’ day clinics for the moment.

The 20-time Grand Slam champion denied appearing at the Swiss Indoors since he claimed that he isn’t mentally and emotionally ready for another farewell after the Laver Cup. During his appearance in Tokyo, he played an exhibition match with wheelchair tennis champions Shingo Kunieda, and Gordon Reid, and Japanese Tennis star Kei Nishikori.

During the match, Nishikori funnily asked if his gear was distracting him. Roger Federer quickly responded with a funny answer that left everyone in splits as he claimed it to be his post-retirement look. Uniqlo had earlier stated about hosting a special ceremony in Tokyo to pay respect to the 8-time Wimbledon champion and give his fans a chance to relieve the journey and achievements of the Swiss legend.
