Tennis’ bad boy Nick Kyrgios reached his maiden grand slam semifinal by beating Cristian Garin in the quarterfinals at Wimbledon 2022 in straight sets 6-4,6-3,7-6(5). Kyrgios was clearly the better player throughout the match and unlike some of his previous matches this fortnight, he needn’t dig deep for a victory.

Kyrgios’ emotions after winning the match depicted how much this means to him. He hadn’t made it to even a grand slam quarterfinal in the last 5 years and now; he has made it to the semifinals at Wimbledon where he’ll face 22-time grand slam champion, Rafael Nadal.

The Australian was so emotional after the victory that he had to sit down for a couple of minutes on the chair to soak everything in. He spoke about the same in the on-court interview and said that he never thought that he’d reach a grand slam semifinal in his career and the thought of it made him emotional.

I just never thought that I would be in the semi-finals at a Grand Slam. I thought that ship had sailed. I didn’t go about things great earlier in my career and may have missed my window. I am really proud of the way I have come back out here,” he said.
