The Belarusian star Aryna Sabalenka has been crowned the 2023 Australian Open champion. She got the reward of a fortnight-long hard work and consistency after she defeated the Kazakh Elena Rybakina in the thrilling final at Rod Laver Arena. She took 2 hours and 28 minutes to top her phenomenal performance Down Under since the beginning of the season.

After the win, Sabalenka received applause from all around the world. Her fellow stars on the tour were not behind in congratulating Sabalenka on her first Grand Slam title. The most prominent ones were fellow major champions Bianca Andreescu and Victoria Azarenka

Aryna Sabalenka’s hard work and patience pay off finally

Aryna Sabalenka

The 24-year-old player from Minsk has been waiting for this moment with patience. For the last couple of years, she has been playing under the shadow of World No. 1 Iga Swiatek. Before the tournament, she was not considered the foremost favorite even after clinching the Adelaide International title.

Last year, the war raging in her continent made the matters worse for her. She was banned from Wimbledon because of her nationality. Despite these challenges, she reigned supreme in the fortnight losing just one set, that too in the final. All this makes her victory even more special and sweeter and she would definitely need some time to relish that.

Sabalenka broke a slew of records with the title. She is yet to lose a match in the 2023 season as her win-loss record this year stands at a phenomenal 11-0. After lifting the title she took a bite of the trophy. Let’s hope her maiden Grand Slam title is just the first one of many. Given the form she is riding on, no one can dispute that there are more titles on the way.
