“At 40 he won’t manage this performance,” Boris Becker believes Novak Djokovic has only a couple of years with him

Serbian tennis idol Novak Djokovic has matched with his Spanish rival Rafael Nadal in the most Grand Slam titles record. The 35-year-old rewrote history after lifting his record-extending 10th title Down Under on Sunday. Looking at his ominous form and unsatiated hunger, Djokovic’s ascendancy to even greater heights can not be denied.
After the title at the 2023 Australian Open, Djokovic reclaimed the top spot in the latest ATP rankings. The Serb is already the undisputed king on Australian soil. Moving on further in the season, Djokovic is looking to solidify his status as the greatest of the game which he always dreamed about.
Former World No. 1 and Eusport expert, Boris Becker painted a picture of what lies ahead for Djokovic. He believes that the Serb can continue his unbridled march for the next couple of years but after that, there will be a limit.
“Success is his life’s dream, he wants to become the most successful player in history. Even as a child, he said: I’m going to be the best – and he was right. And now he is at the limit,” Becker explained.
The six-time Grand Slam winner also pointed out the next challenges for him in the current season. “Novak is 35 years old and he knows at 40 he won’t manage this performance,” he said. “I think it will be a hell of a ride after the Australian Open. It will be completely different activities and a completely different burden in Paris and Wimbledon,” Becker continued.

Injury is the sole challenge for Novak Djokovic in the current season

Novak Djokovic clinched the Australian Open title despite a lingering hamstring injury. He fought with the taped foot and never allowed the hamstring to derail his campaign. After the win, he once again opened up about the same.
“I’m not sure, I’m going to do some medical check-ups in the next few days,” he said. “Then I’ll be able to talk about it a bit more and understand the situation. As it stands today I am still signed in for the Dubai tournament, which is in a month’s time. I hope I’ll be able to come back to the courts in several weeks’ time. Let’s see, you know, I’ll speak to the medical team and then take it from there,” he continued.
Given the fact that Djokovic has more time than his rival Rafael Nadal, the Serb looks in a better position to move past Nadal in the current season. Nadal, on the other hand, is battling his own injury but will be able to return before the French Open. The duo is definitely on track to add another enthralling chapter in their storied rivalry in the next few months.
