Casper Ruud has had a wonderful season where he achieved a career-high ranking of No.2. He started the season by winning the Argentina Open and then made it to his maiden Masters final at Miami. After winning the Geneva Open, he reached his first Grand Slam final at Roland Garros. He won the Swiss Open and then reached his second major final of the season at Flushing Meadows.

At the ATP Finals this week, he had two solid wins against Felix Auger-Aliassime and Taylor Fritz but lost to Rafael Nadal in straight sets. In the semifinals, he defeated Andrey Rublev in straight sets 6-2,6-4.

Novak Djokovic has regained his lost form in the second half of the 2022 season. He had a terrible start to the season and was banned from competing in Australia and the US due to his vaccination status. He won the Rome Masters and then went on to win Wimbledon, which was his 21st major title. After the US Open, he won back-to-back titles in Tel Aviv and Astana before making it to the final of the Paris Masters.

This week in Turin, he defeated Andrey Rublev, Stefanos Tsitsipas, and Daniil Medvedev in the group stage and then got the better of Taylor Fritz in the semifinals in straight sets 7-6(5),7-6(6).

Due to the nature of the surface and current form, Djokovic will go in as the favorite. He has been very dominant this week and has lived up to his name. Ruud, on the other hand, is playing in the final of the year-end championships for the first time. He doesn’t have the best game for fast courts but has managed to prove everyone wrong who termed him as a clay courter.

Having said that, Ruud will have to wait for a title other than a 250 on the ATP Tour this time as Djokovic is expected to win the match and become the oldest champion in the tournament’s history.
