Nick Kyrgios has had a pretty good 2022 season so far. He pushed second seed Daniil Medvedev to 4 sets at the Australian Open in the second round and then played a very good match against Rafael Nadal in the quarterfinals of the Indian Wells Masters which he lost in three sets. He then made it to the Round of 16 of the Miami Masters and then reached the semifinals of the ATP Houston event. He decided to skip the clay-court season and in the first round at Stuttgart, he defeated Jiri Lehecka in straight sets 7-6(3),6-3.
Nikoloz Basilashvili didn’t have the best start to the 2022 season and lost in the first round of the Australian Open. He didn’t win matches at Marseille and Rotterdam before making it to the final of the Qatar Open. His misery continued at Indian Wells and Miami and he didn’t have a great clay season either. His best result was a quarterfinal appearance at Munich and he then bowed out of the second round of the French Open. This week in Stuttgart, he defeated Lorenzo Musetti in straight sets 7-5,6-3.
