Barbora Krejcikova faced a first-round exit from the 2023 French Open, as she was defeated by Lesia Tsurenko in straight sets. This comes as a huge surprise, as the 2021 French Open champion was expected to at least make it to the second week of the tournament.
Moreover, Krejcikova seemed pretty confident about her chances at the Roland Garros this year. The Czech tennis player issued an early warning to the likes of Iga Swiatek, Aryna Sabalenka, and Elena Rybakina prior to the French Open. She stated that women’s tennis has a lot of stiff competition at the moment, and the focus should not just be on the Big Three Players.
“It’s good that we have players like Iga Swiatek, Elena Rybakina, and Aryna Sabalenka that are dominating the tour, but I also think that there are so many players that are really consistent, and they are actually trying to make it harder for them. And I believe I’m one of them,” Krejcikova had said.
Barbora Krejcikova did not have a great 2022 season, and she looks to make amends this year. However, it has not gone according to plan for the 27-year-old as she faced a first-round exit from the French Open.

The Czech professional looked nowhere close to her best during her first-round defeat at the hands of Lesia Tsurenko. The 13th seed managed to win just six games in the entire match, after having been broken on serve on five occasions.
Barbora Krejcikova’s form in the lead-up to the French Open was not promising either. She managed to only reach the second round of the Stuttgart Open and the Italian Open. The Czech tennis player won the Dubai Open earlier this year, an accomplishment that she believes has been forgotten by the press.
The 27-year-old believes there are many other players on the tour who are capable of challenging the likes of Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka. She considers herself to be among the contenders but acknowledges the fact that there are players much better positioned to challenge the top three at the moment.
“There are also other really good players that are ahead of me that are trying to make it as well. I just felt like at the beginning of the year I was really playing well, and I won in Dubai, and I was kind of forgotten,” added Krejcikova in the same interview.
