A young Canadian teenager announced herself to our world of tennis in 2019. A remarkable win over Serena Williams in the final of the US Open saw Bianca Andreescu get the limelight. Many thought that she would rule the women’s game in the coming years.

However, it isn’t that easy to stay at the top for long. Tennis has seen many one-time winners and then they slowly lose their spark. Andreescu’s journey post the 2019 US Open has been somewhat that. To be fair to the Canadian she was repeatedly countered by injuries and that derailed her progress.

It hasn’t been a very smooth journey since her win in New York. She has touched on ranking no. 4 as well. However, injuries and a performance dip saw her not hold that. However, the Canadian, four years down the line, has decided to stay positive and believe in her capabilities to turn her fortunes around. She noted, “If I look at 2019, the only thing I thought was that it was going to improve a lot.

Then many things happened that went in the opposite direction, so I don’t want to look back, I prefer to stay in the present moment. It’s always good to have those memories, to remember that I’m a Grand Slam champion, because sometimes I forget. Sometimes I feel quite insecure about myself, I had a hard time coming out of 2019 thinking that everything would be good and then not living up to expectations.

Continuing her train of thought, she further noted, “Now I just try to stay positive, I know it sounds cliché but it works for me. I’m doing things right, but I need patience, I’ve been saying this for a year and a half. I hope to get a win soon.”

She still feels that she has a lot of time on the tour, and if her body holds up, she can turn the tide in her favor. In her first-round match against Victoria Azarenka at the 2023 French Open, it was quite evident that the fighting spirit is still very much there. It’s her own body that’s getting in the way. Can she stay fit for a long time so that her game can flourish and scale new heights?

Having been pulled back by injuries Bianca Andreescu finally looked solid on the court in Paris. Tipped to be the next big thing in tennis, she failed to meet expectations as she often found herself out of draws. However, this first-round match of hers against the seasoned Victoria Azarenka had a different story altogether. It reminded fans of her 2019 US Open campaign.

She looked nothing short of a tigress that fortnight, taking out big names and the biggest of them all in the finals. Her win over tennis professional Serena Williams proved to her fans that it’s here again. After being set down against Azarenka, many would have thought that it was a similar story for the Canadian. However, she fought back and won the match by three. This win will give her immense confidence, as this was a win in adversity. She will now play an easier opponent than her first-round one. Emma Navarro is her next opponent, who won her first match in three sets too. Andreescu will be the favorite for this clash. Can her body hold up? Let’s see
