Rafael Nadal had a dream start to the 2022 season where he came back from the dead to beat Daniil Medvedev and win the 2022 Australian Open- which was his 21st grand slam title. Days after playing one of the greatest ever matches, Nadal announced his collaboration with the Non-Fungible Tokens (NFT) platform Autograph on social media.
Autograph is a platform that narrows down the bridge between fans and the biggest names in sports and entertainment by creating digital collections and experiences. After Nadal won his record 22nd major title and 14th Roland Garros title, Autograph announced the launch of a special El Rey: The Rafael Nadal Collection to honor the great man.
Autograph co-founder and NFL legend Tom Brady took to social media to share the news of its launch and revealed that it was their biggest drop yet. “What’s up, guys? I got big news today, my guy Rafa Nadal is dropping on Autograph this afternoon at 3 o’clock, so this is our biggest drop yet. The artwork is amazing. There’s actually a physical racquet signed by Rafa that comes with this. Yours truly is going to be in the queue trying to pick this one up me,” Brady said in a video message.
El Rey: The Rafael Nadal Collection consists of two types of NFTs. The first is the ’22’ collectibles and the second is the 2,800 Rafael Nadal: El Rey Mystery Containers. These varied containers include one of six trading cards, three embossed and three in color which are called The Prodigy, The Master, and The King.
Rafael Nadal seeded No.2 at Wimbledon
Rafael Nadal will return to Wimbledon after almost 3 years. He last played at All England in 2019 where he lost to Roger Federer in the semifinals. This year, with Daniil Medvedev, banned from playing and Alexnder Zverev injured, Nadal will be seeded second in the tournament and will headline the bottom half of the draw.
Nadal played his first match on the grass a day ago; an exhibition match against Stan Wawrinka which he won in straight sets 6-2,6-3. He looked fit physically and is a serious contender to go all the way this year at Wimbledon if handed a good draw.
