Spanish World No.2 Carlos Alcaraz says in a recent interview that he is not ready to trade Juan Carlos Ferrero with anyone. In fact, he says that his coach Ferrero is like a second father to him and even if Roger Federer comes to coach him, he will refuse. The Spanish sensation is looking to come back to the tour at the Argentina Open starting this week. He had missed the first major of the year – Australian Open 2023 due to a leg injury.
Alcaraz quoted Federer, “If Roger offered to train me, I’d say no. Juan Carlos is my second father and I wouldn’t trade him for anyone. Of course, he’s very sorry I wasn’t able to play with Federer. But a 0-0 balance is better than a 0-1“
Alzaraz has played against other members of the big 3- Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic. He has a winning record against the Serbian 1-0 but trails his compatriot and idol 1-2. The 19-year-old was able to beat both these tennis greats back to back in the Madrid Masters 2022 before beating Alexander Zverev in the finals. (Source: Ubitennis)
Juan Carlos Ferrero won the ATP coach of the year in 2022
With the fantastic 2022 season that went through for both Carlos Alcaraz and Juan Carlos Ferrero, they reaped their success towards the end of the season. Alcaraz was voted in as the ‘Most Improved Player’ of the season while Ferrero won the ATP Coach of the Year award. The teenager was also honored with the ATP Year-End No. 1 trophy handed to him at the 2022 ATP Finals in Turin.
2022 was magical for the Spaniard and his team. Carlos Alcaraz became World No. 1 at 19 years, 4 months, and 7 days, displacing Lleyton Hewitt‘s nearly 21-year-old record of being the youngest at 20 years, eight months, and 26 days. Apart from his maiden Grand Slam title at the US Open 2022, Alcaraz collected four other titles in 2022, which include two Masters 1000 tournaments.
The current US Open champion who has only reached 19 years of age is considered to be the next big thing in tennis. Despite the leg injury that made him out of the Australian Open last month, the 19-year-old will try to regain the moment in the coming months.
