“You literally accused Maria lying so do you think the same 7 years later,” Chris Evert ridiculed by Maria Sharapova fan for bias as she continues to show support for suspended Simona Halep
Tennis fan criticized Chris Evert for standing up for Simona Halep and not for Maria Sharapova in the similar situation.
Chris Evert, Maria Sharapova and Simona Halep
American tennis legend Chris Evert was called the ‘Ice Maiden‘ on the court for not showing any kind of emotions on the court to her opponent. However, after retirement, she has become one of the most vocal and respected voices off the tennis court.
She with her old rival and now friend Martina Navratilova has from time and again raised her voice on a range of issues besides tennis. However, she has also been very particular about raising her concerns for the tennis players and the sport which she loves so much. She has always advocated that the sport should be played fairly and the sanctity of the sport must always be maintained.
Chris Evert wrote on social media lending her support to beleaguered tennis superstar Simona Halep. She is also hoping for quick resolution of the case so that the Romanian can return to the sport.
However, she also had to face criticism for her views recently. A fan of social media accuses her of taking a bias viewpoint against Maria Sharapova when she was accused of taking performance-enhancing drugs 7 years ago.
“Also you literally accused Maria lying so do you think the same 7 years later? @ChrisEvert,” he wrote in his caption.
However, Chris Evert has not responded to this criticism or given any kind of clarification in this matter.

Chris Evert also supported Naomi Osaka
When Naomi Osaka shook the whole tennis community and gave headache to Australian Open 2023 organizers, following her withdrawal from the first Grand Slam of the season, Chris Evert was one of the few people who supported the Japanese star. A few days later, the 4-time Grand Slam champion took to social media to announce her pregnancy and her decision to miss the entire 2023 season.
The 3-time Wimbledon champion congratulated the Japanese tennis player and believes that a child can help her to make steady returns in her career.
I think it’s great news and I think she’s going to be a great mum. Naomi has shown us so much compassion and kindness during her career that I think that’s going to translate that into caring for another human being, I think she’s going to be an awesome mum,” she said in an exclusive interview with Eurosport.
“I think it’s going to be very freeing for her, in the sense that she can now focus on a human being that is more important than anything else in the world. And she’s not just focusing on tennis, the pressures, the expectations, all the challenges that she faced before, the anxiety, I think having a child is the most freeing and the most loving act that can happen to you,” she continued.
Along with Naomi Osaka, Angelique Kerber and Ash Barty will also welcome their first child in this year. The Japanese star is hoping for making her return into the 2024 season.
