Daniil Medvedev insists that he did not want to create any problems for anyone as he was not invited to compete at the Laver Cup

Daniil Medvedev, the 26-year-old Russian tennis professional has recently cemented his position as one of the best players in the world. The former world number 1 is a force to be reckoned with on the court. He won the US Open last year but was unable to defend his title after a string of bad performances.
The most recent Laver Cup was one of the most sought-after events this year, mostly due to it being Roger Federer’s final tournament. The Swiss icon recently announced his retirement from professionally playing tennis. Many elite tennis stars competed in the Laver Cup but that did not include Daniil Medvedev.
Andrey Rublev recently insisted that Medvedev was invited to participate in the Laver Cup but he also added that the British government did not allow Medvedev to participate due to him being from Russia. Talking about his, Medvedev said, “Actually it’s hard to say because at that time Astana was in the Laver Cup week. I don’t have a visa to the UK, I’m not sure if they would give me one.“
“Accordingly, I did not want to create any problems myself. or to have them created for me. I simply agreed to play this tournament when it was ATP 250, not it’s ATP 500. They were obliged to invite me according to the rankings. If I wanted to play, I would have to play.“
Daniil Medvedev progresses to the second round of the Astana Open
After not being able to take part in Roger Federer’s farewell at the Laver Cup, Daniil Medvedev decided to take part in the Astana Open. Medvedev faced off against Spain’s Albert Ramos-Vinolas in the first round of the tournament. The Russian clinched an easy victory against Vinolas in straight sets.
Medvedev goes up against Finnish Emil Ruusuvuori in the second round. The Russian is expected to win the game in straight sets and make it to the next round of the tournament.
