Russian tennis star Daniil Medvedev was in full praise for his opponent at the ongoing Vienna Open. Daniil eventually won the match by a scoreline of 6-4, 6-2, but was in awe of the performance of Arthur Fils and feels that the young star has a lot of potential in him to reach the top of the pile. After the match, Daniil spoke about Fils at the post-match conference, citing how versatile he is on different courts.

Right now, maybe I see him as a much better player on clay courts, but look at what he did last week, an indoor hard court final. Typically, indoor hard courts are much faster than those played outdoors, the conditions make everything go a little faster, so Arthur will end up being a dangerous player on each of the surfaces.

As per the tennis professional himself, young and talented players like Fils reach the top 10 rankings sooner or later. Furthermore, the Russian also opened up about how Fils’s progression has been consistent throughout his journey and that the young talent could be on top in the next ten years. Medvedev added:

He is super young, he has made a tremendous leap in the ranking, young people like him end up reaching the top 10, sooner or later. His progression suggests that he will be up there for the next ten years, as long as nothing strange happens, you never know. He has great potential, so let's hope he can develop it.

How has Arthur Fils fared so far in the year?

Aged just 19, Fils has been featured in the Challenger tournaments mostly and has impressed everyone immensely with his performances in recent times. He started the year off with a Challenger title right in the very first competition. He continued his scintillating form at the Open Sud de France and the Open 13 tours, making it to the semis.
