Daniil Medvedev’s dream of winning a second ATP Finals trophy ended when he lost to Jannik Sinner in the semi-final of the tournament. The two players had a really close battle in the first two sets, but the third and the final set was completely dominated by the Italian. Sinner won the match 6-3, 6-7(7), 6-1 and thus the Russian’s season came to an end.

After his loss in the semifinals, Medvedev, who is currently on vacation, talked about his plans for the off-season. The Russian revealed that he plans the off-seasons differently every year after judging the circumstances and, for several reasons, he and his wife could not really go on a vacation in the last 4-5 years.

Every year is different. To be honest, I didn't take off-season vacations like some players. I once had the Davis Cup. Last year we had a little baby, so… I went back to work straight away.

Thus, the couple decided to go on a vacation to the islands. However, Medvedev revealed that his wife Daria had to agree to the destination against her liking as it is perfect for the World No. 3 after a tough schedule and thus she had to concede.

This year, my wife and I are going to the islands. This is the first time in four or five years. She doesn't really like this place because there isn't much to do. But for me it's perfect after a hectic season. I love it (smile). I will probably only play the Australian Open. I'm going to try to take more vacation than usual and more offseason and start with a Grand Slam right away, which will be new for me.

Daniil Medvedev did not mind the Turin crowds cheering for Jannik Sinner

Jannik Sinner, being an Italian, definitely got the home advantage throughout the 2023 ATP Finals. On being asked whether it got to his head during the semifinal, Medvedev said that, although he did not think much about it, losing the break in the third set got under his skin and thus he had that situation with a spectator from the stands. Apart from that, the Russian also thought that the fans applauded many of his good shots as well.

As I said before the match, it's normal that they support Sinner. But when I was doing some good shots, I felt a lot of… it's not support, but a lot of applauses, which was very nice. I think in general it was fine. I felt good energy on the court. That's why after the match you could see me thanking the crowd

Daniil Medvedev ends the 2023 season on a positive note. He won the Tokyo Open, the Winston-Salem Open, and the Sydney International this year.
