Former World No. 1s Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray, and Victoria Azarenka, and current WTA no.2 Ons Jabeur will be some of the highest profile players making an appearance at the Adelaide International 2023, the first event of 2023 that commences right on New Year’s Day. The hard-court event will take place at The Drive (Memorial Drive Tennis Centre), in Adelaide, South Australia.
Adelaide International is a two-tiered event. In the men’s category, it’s an ATP 250 event, and in the women’s category, it ranks higher at WTA 500. For its 2023 edition, the tournament has confirmed the appearances of 8 of the world’s top 10 men and women’s players.
The men’s event will feature 21-time Grand Slam champion and current world no.5 Novak Djokovic, world no.6 Felix Auger-Aliassime, world no.7 Daniil Medvedev, and world no.8 Andrey Rublev. World no.15 Jannik Sinner of Italy, and former world no.1 Andy Murray will also be making appearances in the tournament.
Conversely, the WTA event will also have 4 of the top 10 players, which include: world no.2 Ons Jabeur, world no.5 Aryna Sabalenka, world no.8 Daria Kasatkina, and world no.9 Veronika Kudermetova. We will also get to see former world no.1 and 2-time Grand Slam champion Victoria Azarenka, Wimbledon 2022 winner Elena Rybakina, US Open 2019 champ Bianca Andreescu, and French Open 2017 champion Jelena Ostapenko.
The formidable line-up in both the men’s and women’s events will make for a riveting tournament and a splendid start to the new tennis season.
Remarks on the upcoming Adelaide International 2023 Tennis Tournament
As one can gauge from its power-packed participant’s list, Adelaide International is a premier tennis event. It generates buzz amongst fans as well as players, who are excited to participate. Aryna Sabalenka, the current world no.5, will be making her second consecutive appearance at the tournament. She said “I really enjoyed my time this year in Adelaide. The tournament is always very strong, and I know I am going to have some tough competition.”
Alistair MacDonald, the tournament director of Adelaide International, spoke to the media and expressed his satisfaction with the strong contenders who will be playing in the event. “We are thrilled to confirm such a world-class line up for week one of the Adelaide International. The calibre of both ATP and WTA players who have entered ensures that tennis fans are going to see the world’s best in Adelaide ahead of the Australian Open” he said.
