Roger Federer was given a fitting farewell at the 2022 Laver Cup. The organisers had arranged for a special performance from Ellie Goulding, one of Britain’s biggest singers at the moment. Goulding gave a brilliant performance singing a mix of her songs in paying tribute to the Swiss maestro.

Goulding however made a blunder after the performance. The Briton took to her Twitter account to thank the organisers but misspelt the Laver Cup as ‘Lava Cup’. Goulding wrote, “Such an honour. Team Federer and Team Lava Cup were so lovely. Thank you for asking me.”

Fans were however very upset with Goulding for getting the tournament’s name. Her thanking of Team Federer also led to some trolls as the two teams are Team World and Team Europe. However, with Federer one of the co-founders of the tournament, she might have thanked her management team but that’s just an assumption.

Having been earlier trolled for her performance as well, Goulding faced more mockery from netizens for getting the tournament’s name wrong. Federer however had been respectful and thanked the singer for her performance as he said goodbye to his beloved sport after a 24-year long career.

Goulding’s zero efforts on correcting her mistake further infuriated the fans. Some of her fans however came to defend her as it was a human mistake and Twitter does not have the edit option for the tweets, a feature available on other social media platforms.
